That's so bizarre to me. I genuinely delight in the everyday things. Tiny flowers blooming on a bush. A hairpin smile of a lopsided moon. A flock of hwonking geese that are flying north, giving me a laugh. To think that a large majority could be so miserable in a veritable paradise boggles my mind.
I am honestly exactly the same and I have been entirely baffled by it since we arrived. I catch people’s eyes, smile, and 75% of the time it’s not returned! Wild. Keep on being the joy!!!
One of my greatest joys in life is to people watch. I always wonder what is going on in their brains. We all appear to be empty vessels, but there is always so much going on in every human being that we see.
I love this! I agree. People watching, especially while on holiday, is fascinating and utterly bizarre sometimes. One time, my husband and I went to a fancy-ish restaurant tucked away in the forests of the Tacoma, Washington area, nestled picturesquely on a golf course green... and it was completely empty, save for the two of us, one other 4-top table and two ladies at the bar. Two dudes from the golf course proceeded to join the ladies and what did they talk about? Fire codes, the annoyances of schooling their children, and the fact (in their minds) that swimming pools were far superior to the Puget Sound. I couldn't believe it. As my husband and I ate our meal, admiring the gorgeous bask of the golden hour sun on the golf course, surrounded by gigantic evergreen trees and the gently swaying late summer flowers in the window boxes, we couldn't help but laugh at their conversation. I was like "Thank you for saving me from that life!" It was like overhearing a bad sitcom where all the characters were so self-absorbed they couldn't see how good they had it. At one point, one guy was bragging about how he was a member of the most prestigious tennis club in the Pacific Northwest. Great, cool, but have you sunk your toes into the sand in your own backyard recently?
I read this comment out to my fiancé over dinner and he said “she sounds like she writes” ! I said “most people on Substack on write” and he said “it is wonderfully storied. You can tell!”. So glad to have you as a new subscriber and thank you for this gorgeous comment. Everyone needs to plug themselves back into the earth more often, eh?! Ps. Thanks for noticing the beauty all around and being the change x
That’s an incredible compliment! Thank him for me! And you are so very welcome for the follow. I hope you will enjoy some of my words the same as I have enjoyed yours and that I live up to my great storytelling potential.

Yes! Do it!! 😀 I gave Mikey's on Saturday as he had Birthday celebrations at La Choza in The Lanes before moving onto The Brighton Tavern and then one of his mate's flat for more drink and jollies :) He loved the journal :) x
Mmm so sad. I wish them all a breath of life so they might remember where they chose the wrong the turn.
Choose! 💗💗 So few are those who choose.. I was just thinking today that there is a problem with our language: Emotional states should be verbs.
What you up to? Nah not much, just home by my self joying and satisfying. You know.. blissing the f out.. because life is such a heart popping extatic mystery. Ahhhh: But love is a verb. At least when you don't fall into it. And fear too. And hate.

To not return a smile... that's poem inspiration right there. In a good way, haha!
Sending a smile your way from the not-paradise of Boston in winter. Despite the cold, there's still a lot to smile about.
Keep bringing the joy too, Siân 🌼
Ah ~ thank you for the nudge! Perhaps I will! Sending a smile right back from the sunniest of beaches in the Caribbean 🔆✨🥹

Thank you for reading 🧡 I do too! I wish I could hear their inner monologue!

Happy New Year, Siân! Yes, be joyful wherever and whenever you can. This life is a short one.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Did your friends like their journals? 🧡 literally ~ I am using this as my reason to have the cocktail at 10am 😹
I need to arrange a meet up with Linz so she can get hers too :)
